AFTER MEETING COMMENTS ON HEALTH DEPARTMENT FACILITY & PREMISES

Commissioner Day – So ahh I guess my question is; we're responsible to supply them the facility correct?

Commissioner Wesler – Yeah but there is a budget though out there ahh phasing out the obligation to provide the space, the building and utilities.

Commissioner Day – I understand that…. it's our property are obligated to maintain it?

Commissioner Wesler – What about the Fairgrounds then?

Commissioner Day – The Fairgrounds the Ag Society is the we gave the authority to operate the facility and manage it.

Commissioner Wesler – Well I believe that is what Bob is sayin that we probably said that it was implied back when we built that building for them. Or when they took over that building.

Commissioner Stonecash – Have we generated any revenue, any rental income from that facility?

Commissioner Day – So you're saying that the agreement was that they would maintain the facility?

Commissioner Stonecash – That is my understanding. That happened 10 years, they been out there 10 years?

Commissioner Wesler – No about eight.

Connie -Yeah

2 hr.  34.5  Minute mark   Discussion upcoming Goose Creek meeting at National Trail and Farm Bureau meeting scheduled earlier the same night.

Commissioner Stonecash – ….Your recommendation from your Farm Bureau buddy was that they not have it in the same room we are.

Commissioner Wesler – That's right we're not, they're not. No we are in a separate room, we want to be in the gymnasium but they are redoing the floor so the cafetorium which they are having so. The cafetorium if I am thinking which is the right terms here has the is similar to Eaton where they have the stage you know three four foot stage. If we have to have it the National Trail cafeteria at the high school it is just a flat area and not as big as the Cafetorium.

Commissioner Stonecash – Oh they got both

Commissioner Wesler – They got both. The cafetorium is for the elementary school.

Commissioner Stonecash – I gottcha.

Commissioner Day – Is David preparing the information for that?

Commissioner Stonecash – Yeah I think so. He is getting all of the speakers lined up. He's got everybody coming that will be necessary I think.

Commissioner Day – That's fine, I mean

Further discussion and worth a listen

2 hr.  34.5  Minute mark  Commissioner Stonecash – ..people that don't get it are people that want to keep Preble County from progressing, at whatever cost it is. They are not interested in anybody's agenda but their own. This is going to bring great things for Preble County.

Commissioner Stonecash – Are we on record?

Connie – Yes

Commissioner Stonecash – Ok

Commissioner Wesler – Ok the recommendations have been sent down to us. So I have ahhm two letters that we need to move on. I'll start with the first one that we did this morning. Effective June 27, Mr. Loren Brown has been hired….. $11.31 per hour.

The next is the new hire effective July 11, Mr. Bruce Allison has been hired…. $9.39 per hour.

3 hr.  22.25  Minute mark   Commissioner Stonecash – I'd like to go into Executive Session to discuss possible employment of a county employee.

EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE EMPLOYMENT OF A COUNTY EMPLOYEE

Exit

Commissioner Wesler – And Bob?

Commissioner Stonecash – I'd like to take a minute here and talk about hiring a ahh an assistant in the Economic Development Department for the purpose of assisting with duties there and ahh working possibly in the visitors bureau to promote to help promote Preble County and that be 24 hours a week. And just perform the duties that Shawnda has since October 4th of last year she has done a bang-up job of promoting Preble County. In all parts of the county. Saturday night was a good example of her planning and work ethic and she does at this point need help. And I would propose that we post for additional help over there for 24 hrs. a week.

Commissioner Wesler – I would agree with that.

Commissioner Stonecash – put that as a motion and then you can discuss it. Do you want it in a motion so we can discuss it? I think it would be appropriate probably.

Commissioner Day – However you want to do it.

Commissioner Wesler – I think you are saying you agree then?

Commissioner Day – Well I guess the main purpose of this person would be toward the convention and tourism portion of economic development. I understand that they would be there to assist Shawnda but the main focus of this person would be the commission and tourism however you want to state that.

Commissioner Wesler – Attracting more visitors, travelers and visitors

Commissioner Day – Right, similar to the event that was held over the weekend. Promoting whatever we have here in the county as far as the Fair and the Pork Festival and all the local Black Walnut, Oktoberfest those type of things. So that would be the focal point for this person.

Commissioner Stonecash – Right and Shawnda has worked closely with the Fairfield Inn on Rt. 40 near New Paris. And she has also worked closely with Hueston Woods and they value what she has done so far in promoting their businesses. They both came up with packages to help promote this Bike, Bridges and Blues event. So she is already doing that but she needs some help.

Commissioner Wesler – I am just going to say that things have blossomed since she started over there and she's got more contacts, more people to call, more businesses to see and she is getting busier all the time. There is a lot of potential still here in Preble County and we have just hit the tip of the iceberg. So this will help get her the some assistance that she needs. So.

Commissioner Stonecash – Yeah and I say she promoted with those two hotels and any hotel that didn't participate in Preble County is not because they weren't given the opportunity.

Connie – So Bob would you like to note receipt of and approve a help wanted ad for an economic development clerk typist? For 24 hours per week?

Commissioner Stonecash – I would make that motion to note receipt of and post

Connie – Help wanted ad.

Commissioner Day – And I would second that.

Commissioner Wesler – Ok Connie will you please call the roll.

Motion passes 3 – 0

Commissioner Day – And part of that to establish office hours so we could have someone, a body there. So that when people try to contact that office they talk to a person.

Commissioner Wesler – Oh yeah that is good.

Connie – Ok, one last thing. Kim has prepared her RFP for the analyze of impediments to fair housing. So we need to note receipt and approve the RFQ/RFP

Passes 3 – 0.

Commissioner Stonecash wishes Commissioner Wesler a happy vacation (headed to Orlando).
