This was a two hour meeting. I found the economic development meeting the most interesting.  For the most part it dealt with a study to assess needs at the Preble County Fair Grounds. As many of you know the Fairgrounds was awarded an $875,000 improvement grant earlier this year. The Preble County Development Partnership (PCDP) recently voted to pay for the $30,000 study pending approval of the Preble County Fair Board. The Fair Board approved the study.

Jim Simon who heads the PCDP spoke on the involvement of the Partnership and the upcoming naming of a new Economic Development Director as early as next week. 

Part way through the meeting Commissioner Wesler spoke to reassure that the economic development office was still functioning pending the hiring of a new Economic Development Director.  A list of issues and people contacted was given in response.  There is to be a meeting scheduled in the near future with the County Commission to renew the county’s five year commitment to the Partnership.  The five year commitment is paid for with a 1 mill conveyance tax on the sale of property.  The Partnership was supposed to be self sufficient at the end of the current five year period, it will not be.  As this meeting approaches the public will be reassured and hear a list of positives accomplished.  One of the first things done at the onset by the previous Economic Development Director was the creation of a county website www.preblecountyregion.com  . It was stressed to the previous commission how important having and up to date and informative website was to the promotion of Preble County. One of the reasons given for hiring an additional employee was the time needed for maintenance of a website on a daily basis. That brings me to this issue which clearly predates the exit of the Economic Development Director at the end of July.
