Landfill Tipping Increase – Building & Zoning Fee Schedule – Economic Development update

File 2  Is Public Hearing #1 on the Landfill Tipping Increase. This meeting had Gary Wagner the Mayor of Eaton in chambers representing the Lakengren Water Authority. Mr. Wagner runs the sewage system for Lakengren and voiced a question on the raising of a sewage fee from $10 – $24.44. He was informed that the fee is an EPA mandate and a pass through expense that the county receives no additional money from. Mr. Wagner was the only person with questions.

File 3 has among other things the County Engineer rejecting all bids on the Junction and Ketterman Rd. bridge replacements because they all came in over 10% above what had been estimated by the Preble County Engineer.

File 5 has Public Hearing #1 on Building & Zoning Fee Schedule Amendment. Concern over out of state or county fly-by-night operators prompted discussion on having contractors register or be licensed in the county. This raises about $8,900 for the county.

File 7 had Becky Sorrell in for the Job and Family Services monthly meeting. September unemployment in Preble County was 9.3% with many people taking jobs that pay less than what they earned previously.  This is a contributing factor in September being the highest month ever for Food Stamp recipients in Preble County with 5,407 people now using them.

File 8 is the monthly Budget Commission meeting. The county cash balance on October 31, 2010 was put at $2,556,483.59. For comparison the cash balance on October 31, 2009 was $1,638,483.59.

File 10 has an Economic Development update presentation by Shawnda Combs. Various code name projects were covered. Shawnda has also been busy with developing a new economic development website and also one for the County Commissioners.

File 11 had a lengthy Recycling Monthly Meeting that touched on a variety of issues. Time management was mentioned after the meeting.

File 12 has Connie Crowell be advised to offer a Mrs. Clark the job left vacant when Deb Brock left for a another job.

Also discussed were the new Fair Board officers, Ag Society, mediation of the Pork Fest lawsuit and expectation the commissioners have of the Ag Society.
