Judge Dues Grants Pay Increases Opposed By Commission – Leachate

File 2 finds the Preble County Commissioners facing four letters from Judge Dues granting pay raises to four employees on grounds of “additional duties”. This brought on a discussion about what those duties may be and how to respond.  Commissioner Stonecash offered that “Increased job duties goes along with being employed.”  As noted in previous posts on Judges and pay raises; the judge could just court order them.  This issue progressed until a motion by Chris Day to note receipt which was seconded by Bob Stonecash. Dave Wesler voted no on the grounds that the Judge could send down a court order.  I’ll side with Dave and against the two gutless wonders up for re-election next year.  If the Judge wants the pay raises let him order them and take the heat. Instead we have two commissioners setting the county up to be hit with other departments outside the General Fund seeing two wimps and deciding to go for more pay raises.

File 3 has the Preble County Auditor’s General Fund Financial Update. The General Fund has $3,566,733.21 in it. Of that some $700,000 + is under question because of insufficient data from the state.  Even if the all the 1 mill conveyance fee of August 2009 is added in and $900,000 subtracted from the $3,566,733.21 the fund remains in record territory for this time of year at $2,666,733.21.

File 7 has the Landfill Monthly Meeting. I have requested the report given and it is included to provide more detailed information.

File 8 was to be the Recycling meeting but Tish was out sick. Instead there is a discussion on the savings of trucking landfill leachate to Lakengren. The savings were put at a nickel a gallon. This a savings that this commission could have had a long time ago had they followed the lead of the previous commission and continued the commitment to go to Camden. That however would have been in the best interest of future economic development for Preble County so naturally the decision was changed to Lakengren which offered zero economic development chance.  Apparently Bob still “does not get it” as he likes to accuse others that disagree with him. He commented that “You know I think that was a deliberate action just for that purpose.”as a possible reference to Camden filing suit in Federal Court. For more on this affront to intelligent decision making and the future of Preble County please check out this post. This commission cooked up a rigged scoring system that actually negated the “General Overall Benefit to Preble County” and I'll echo Bob and say; I think it was done on purpose.

Commissioner Day – What does that come out of?

Commissioner Wesler – The TASC fund. Any thoughts?

Commissioner Day – I guess he said for additional duties. Are they down people? I guess would be my only question. What additional duties are they doing? But I don't know that department, unfortunately.

Commissioner Wesler – I'll accept a motion one way or the other or no motion at all.

Commissioner Stonecash – Well he'll simply court order.

Commissioner Wesler – And ahh he's got that right but just to ahh my feeling is just to say this; everybody in the courthouse can say they got have had increased job duties to ahh.

Commissioner Day – That would be true.

Commissioner Stonecash – Goes with the territory. ????? same job.

Commissioner Day – What's that?

Commissioner Stonecash – The increased job duties just goes along with being employed.

Commissioner Wesler – I hear what both of you are saying and me to. Are you willing to turn this down and of course we don't have to tell him court order, he will. But I think that is going to be the way to go.

Commissioner Stonecash – That is the appropriate way.
