Continued Push on Goose Creek – County Employee Vacation Time Issue

Due record use last month and the increased bandwidth I will be testing using YouTube as an alternative to carrying audio files on my web account.  The CFPCTV account on YouTube will carry the entire meeting in one file. Anyone who wants to rip the mp3 meeting audio can try using Free Studio 5.

Mindy Robbins reported a cash balance of $3,403,496.74

Shawnda Combs gave an Economic Development Update. She continues to push Goose Creek.  Infrastructure or lack of it continues to be an issue through out the county. It should be noted though that the previous estimates had both the New Paris to the Stateline water and sewer project and the Camden leachate line costing less than Goose Creek. Camden has rail and highway frontage and the Stateline over looks tens of millions of dollars in retail development on the Indiana side. Goose Creek has no current county option to buy any ground on Rt. 127, the county option is on land behind the Pilot Truck stop. Shawnda also appeared to take a swipe at the local real estate community but I’ll leave that to the realtors to decide.  There will be a billboard at the old Stateline truck stop; it may be the huge old sign that sits on the property. Preble Set Go is apparently the new marketing campaign that will be appearing on billboards around the county.

There was an Executive Session to discuss the sale of county property.  A date of May 2 was mentioned.  I’ll note that previously the sale of county property has been mentioned as a way of proceeding with Goose Creek. The option to buy on the 30.29 acres expires on July 9.

There was extended discussion on the accumulation of vacation time. The county has a 12 month policy but for some reason has not enforced it. Chris Day who is a lifelong government employee did not seem to get it. I thought Bob made a perfect assessment of the reason why in this audio file: File 8A . Eric Green or anyone thinking of running as a write-in candidate should take note of Bob’s comment.

1 hr. 8.25 Minute mark   Discussion on the accumulation of vacation time. Connie informs commissioners that they already have a policy, they just need to enforce it. 12 months.

Currently it is being allowed to accumulate longer. Under special circumstances it can accumulate up to two and by law it cannot go longer than three.

Currently notified if they get close to three years.

1 hr. 11.5 Minute mark      Bob Stonecash has Connie read the current county policy out loud. I agree with Bob on this issue; the county policy needs to be enforced.  Chris Day who is a life long public servant disagrees. Not surprised.
