Commission Sings Praises of Economic Director over Press Release Written By Director about Director

This meeting has the commission again singing the praises of Shawnda Combs the Preble County Economic Director. Their praise is based on articles that appeared in the Pal Item and Register Herald.  The articles were on the recent retention in the county of Teamwork Manufacturing.  I think everyone is glad the company stayed in Preble County.  Both articles were the result of a press release written by Shawnda. The surprise would be if they were not complimentary of the writer in this case Shawnda. The article that appeared in the March 28, 2012, Register Herald was a verbatim copy of Shawnda’s press release.

That conversation transitioned into a short conversation on the recent hiring of Christy Millhouse as the new OSU Extension official agent for 4H. The commissioners who have professed a commitment to 4H for several years were peeved that even though she had started on the job that very week she had failed to come see them as a first “exercise” of business.  I was left wondering if it was more important that she do the job she was hired for or kiss the commission butt. I am sure we can all expect a photo-op in the near future. This issue reminds me of the commission withholding almost $10,000 in cell tower rental from the Fairgrounds until they can submit a needed project. The need is more about commission photo-ops and a public relation story than about the Fair Board committee trying to keep pace with needed maintenance.

Commissioner Day – Yeah ahh that's … first order of business is to at least bring a new employee over to meet. So I am a little disappointed.
