Landfill Tonnage at Lowest Since 2002 – Economic Development Director Should Stick to Her Job –

File 4 has the Landfill Monthly meeting, tonnage for the first six months of the year was down 2% over last year and at the lowest point since 2002. Chris Day seemed to be in a real rush to get leachate flowing through the force main to Lakengren. The landfill is waiting on a transformer. The incompetent decision to build a leachate line to Lakengren instead of Camden as previous commissions had wanted was spearheaded by Chris Day and has resulted in two lawsuits.  Camden offered more economic development potential with railroad access.  The committee that Chris Day lead, came up with a decision that will negatively impact Preble County for generations.  The scoring system actually showed the Camden route to be of more benefit to Preble County but added other criteria that weighted the outcome to Lakengren.

File 7 & 9 appear to be a continuation of an issue that came up at the May 21, 2012 meeting. At that meeting Chris Day offered his view that the county or Partnership needed to hire someone to promote what “we are doing”.  On April 2, 2012 Bob Stonecash offered the opinion that Chris Day had been in government to long File 8A.  The need to always look for a solution by growing government is an indication that Bob was right.  There needs to be a top down review of the parameters of the job the current economic development director is expected to meet. She should not be handling the placement of ice trucks after a storm; the county has an EMA office for that.  There was a County CVB update at file 8 and a subject discussed was the County CVB hiring someone to do a website for tourism which is fine. Also discussed was all three CVB’s in the county working together. This commission needs to once again look in the mirror and assess how much sense it makes for their County CVB to be doing the same thing their Economic Development Director has been doing with this Live, Work, Play website. A great deal of time went into the current website created by Shawnda.  Either her job is the same as the CVB or not.  Why spend limited resources on two websites?  Why not have the County CVB take over administration and updates of that website?  They have hired someone to do essentially the same thing Shawnda has already done, he could handle the website in the future. Quit growing government and make better use of what the county has already paid for. If Shawnda was not spending time on the same issue as the county CVB then she would have more of it to devote to addressing the issue Chris Day wants to hire a new person for.  Stop running the county commission like it is a Three Stooges movie.
