Goose Creek & Negative Impact on Grants For Your Community – North Woods Estates (Sewer District 2)

This meeting provides proof positive that the chasing of grants and project money for Goose Creek will negatively impact other projects throughout Preble County.  File 3A   has Preble County Engineer Steve Simmons stating on the record and in Preble County Commission Chambers: "Just trying to figure out how this is going to dovetail with all of the other projects we have in our pipeline. If we send up more requests than what we should how that is going to affect the rest of the county."  There really is no figuring that needs to be done, Goose Creek is what the Commissioners have hung their reputations on and other areas and needs will be bumped down the priority list. Time spent chasing money for Goose Creek is time not spent looking for money to help other areas. Some of the first residents to reap the impact of the emphasis on Goose Creek may well be the residents of the North Woods Estates subdivision area in Lewisburg, or the area known as Sewer District 2. The proposed new user fee was put at $91.37 per month. Users of Sewer District 2 currently pay their bill every three months but the feared impact of a near $300 bill arriving in citizens’ mail boxes brought the suggestion to change billing to a monthly fee. Oh yeah, no one will notice….

An acknowledgement of just how high the propose rate can be found in the review of File 2. In an earlier discussion with Frank Leon, Steve Simmons put the rate at $75 – $80 to which Frank commented “WOW”. Steve then added that everybody wants a clean environment but nobody wants to pay for it. On December 14, 2009  – (File 12) Woolpert officials commented that Twin Creek (Goose Creek area) informed Preble County, Commissioners that Goose Creek is the second cleanest stream in the state. Concerned residents of Sewer District 2 will be informed of a meeting on the issue scheduled for July 28, at 6:30 P.M.

In Other News:

LEACHATE PIPELINE ROUTE MEETING:

The controversy of the choice to pipe Preble County Landfill Leachate to Lakengren instead of Camden will now result in a meeting with affected land owners.  A meeting has been scheduled for August 11, at 6:30 P.M. for the 20 plus property owners affected by the poor decision made by Preble County Commissioners.  Reports are that this route has the pipeline running close to not only a private water well but also a well field for the entire community of Lakengren.

HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS SKYROCKET:

Connie Crowell informed Commissioner that the RFP’s for health insurance have so far shown huge increases. Medical Mutual came in with a 76% increase and United Health Care with a 44% increase.

CAMDEN & SOMERS Fire & Rescue Agreement on Legal Representation Questioned:

There was also concern over a letter to the Commissioners from the Camden & Somers Fire & Rescue Board Trustees asking for renewal of a legal representation agreement with the county. This brought concern by Commissioner Day that if this was done the “Lakengren Sewer District” could come in with the same request.

GOOSE CREEK COSTS CLIMB:

County Engineer offered his estimate of the cost for surveying the recently option 30.29 acres at Goose Creek at $2,500. This would be on top of the $47,175 expense to option the land. It was just a few weeks ago that Commissioners responding on the record to a letter to the editor claimed that no Preble County taxpayer money had been spent on the project. Time, the truth and costs march on.
