Economic Update – Health District Seeking Levy Renewal

Shawnda Combs Gives Economic Development Update. Preble County General Health District seeking levy renewal.

This is a little off topic but I would like to thank the viewers and listeners of this website for pushing use up over 300% from January of 2010. The CFPC site set an all time monthly record for use with 9.82 gig in January 2011. I think that is a pretty amazing number for a website devoted to Preble County Commission meeting audio. For perspective in 2009 the grand total for the whole year was 17.81 gig.

The Preble County Commissioner agenda data base is now at 789 pages and grows every week. It makes a great reference/search tool for county issues and people going back to October of 2005. When combined with the CFPC Archive it becomes even easier to find information.

MELISSA WALLACE (SPECIAL ELECTION – HEALTH LEVY)

Two levies. One brings in around $200,000 a year and expires in December of 2011. Needs a renewal. .3mill  5 year operating levy.

Discussion on Board of Election costs. Would like to have a special election in August in case turned down in November. Deadline for August vote is May 4. Cost for poll workers estimated at $17,000 – $18,000. Total cost for a county wide issue would be $25,000 – $30,000.

If levy fails it is most likely the prenatal clinic would have to be eliminated. This program saw 465 visits last year. 286 visits for infant to age 6 with a pediatrician. 2% of kids in Preble County have never seen a doctor. 15.5% of Preble population uses the clinic for their shots.

Do birth & death certificates.

2 hr.  24 Minute mark  Discussion on how much is collected from city, villages and townships in county- $115,000. Wanted to increase by $20,000 this year and $30,000 next year. Even at $165,000 it would be less than any other rural county in South West Ohio. The $115,000 has been in place since 2001.

2 hr.   29 Minute mark   Could come up with $10,000 toward election cost of August.

2 hr.  36.5 Minute mark   Both levies put together add up to about $6.50  a day per person. 42,500 people – $3,300,000.

Smaller levy is about $76,000 been in place since around 1970 and expires in 2014.
