Commission & Economic Development Director Cover Butts over Goose Creek Embarassment

This was an almost four and a half house audio cd. Luckily a good bit could be skipped over.

File 2 & 4 are a two part discussion on what to include in a press release to the Register Herald that was due by noon that day. Shawnda Combs was credited with the original press release but it became a collaborative effort over the course of this discussion. The end result was a series of excuses and misleading statements that ignored the commission’s own audio record and official transcripts. The article that appeared in Wednesday’s Register Herald is essentially an attempt to cover up a poor project (Goose Creek) championed by three commissioners that have been in government to long. It failed to release a truthful account of the costs expected.  I recommend listening to the audio files and drawing your own conclusion. While there is verbal indication of backing off at Goose Creek it needs to be noted the press release that appeared in the Register Herald had a last paragraph that started with “We will fight on”.  Indicative of the Commission being less than truthful was that at the May 1, Rural Zoning Board meeting the commission had not pulled their request for rezoning of Goose Creek (see video). File 4 had Commissioner Stonecash claiming the land owner has been less than cooperative. Bob commented he is in favor of paying the option which has $423,000 due by July 9 but he also mentioned lengthening the option to 10 years. His statements were at odds with Connie's comments on commission agreement that no more General Fund money would be spent on the Goose Creek project. The commission blamed misinformation put out by others for the Commission’s inability to gain public support for a project rejected three times by the state.  The inability of this commission to articulate a convincing case for Goose Creek indicates they have a poor case, poor verbal skills or both. They have continually berated the ragtag opposition to the project. The opposition lacks anywhere near the resources of the county. This commission raised the conveyance tax by one mill to pay for an economic development director that is unable to change public opinion. If anything opposition to Goose Creek has greatly grown under her tenure. This commission needs replaced and that can start in November with the defeat of Chris Day. Misstatements and misrepresentations have characterized a Preble County Commission guilty of incompetent decisions. The taxpayers need a change of leadership.

1 hr.  35.10  Minute mark    Commissioner Stonecash … the land owner has been less than cooperative. That's ok the truth is the truth…. I kind of agree with paying the option or extending it would be even better. ..Until we get support from the silent positive majority, we're not in a position to proceed. A review of the primary vote is in order, you got your butts kicked.

Connie on the board not spending any more money out of the General Fund.

KIM KELLER – PREBLE COUNTY 5 YEAR CONSOLIDATED PLAN

HIT Foundation will be in Wednesday on issue.

3 hr.  45 Minute mark   Economic development is covered and the only talked about is GOOSE CREEK. This just happens to reinforce the actions vs. words and believability issue of this commission's claim that the whole county is the focus.

Commissioner Stonecash asks who prepared it.

Kim says it was mostly HIT that has been driving it.

Mention of a consolidated planning committee.

3 hr.  48.5 Minute mark   Commissioner Stonecash – it's all about social agencies.

Kim Keller –  according to this the only thing we got going in the county is we are looking at the development of Goose Creek. They need to be talking to the municipalities…. focus needs to be more broad.

Commissioner Stonecash – …they need to expand their committee base…

3 hr.  57 Minute mark   Both Shawnda Combs – Preble County Economic Development Director and Jeff Seifert – President of the Preble County Partnership are mentioned as being on the committee…
